MUMBAI: Under pressure, Jet Airways today took back the 1,900 sacked staff within 48 hours and its Chairman, Naresh Goyal, personally apologised for the trauma of employees with a promise of not cutting their wages.

"My apology to you for whatever happened...you are like my children and I will not let you down. We will together make it (Jet) a big company .." Goyal told a group of retrenched employees.

Goyal, who had a meeting with a group of retrenched staff, also assured them that there would be no wage cuts and that their pay-packages would remain unchanged.

A group of employees, numbering about 200, met Goyal at a five-star hotel in the city. In the face of difficult situation in the aviation industry, Jet had announced on Wednesday that it was laying off 1,900 employees including 700 probationers. But late last night the axed employees were taken back.

Goyal, however, maintained that he was not taking back the employees due to political pressure. "The decision to recall the sacked employees is my personal decision and has not been taken under any pressure," he said.
