Government clears Ranjan Mathai as independent director of Jet Airways

MUMBAI: Jet Airways Thursday said the ministry of civil aviation has cleared the appointment of Ranjan Mathai, a former Indian Foreign Secretary and Indian High Commissioner to the UK, as an independent director in the airline.

"Accordingly Mr Mathai's appointment as an independent director of the company takes effect from 21 March 2017," India's second biggest airline by market share said in a filing to the stock exchange.

Mathai, a 1974 batch Indian Foreign Service Officer was India's high commissioner to the UK between December 2013 and October 2015.
Before that he was India's foreign secretary till July 2013.

Mathai has served in Indian Embassies in Vienna, Colombo, Washington, Tehran and Brussels.

Mathai also served as Indian Ambassador to Israel, Qatar and France and was the deputy high commissioner to the UK.

In December, Jet's board had approved the appointment of Vikram Mehta,former CEO of Shell India, entrepreneur Rajshree Pathy and Mathai as independent directors.
