Government asks BIAL not to levy user development fee
The government has asked the Siemens-led Bengaluru International Airport (BIAL) not to charge any user development fee (UDF) from departing domestic passengers.
Actual quantum of UDF for domestic and international passengers as well as other regulated charges in respect of both Hyderabad and Ban-galore airports would be fixed up only after the receipt of final audited project cost from them, the minister of civil aviation Praful Patel said.
BIAL is a JV of Siemens, L&T, Unique Zurich Airport, Karnataka governments KSIIDC and Airport Authority of India (AAI). While Siemens holds 40% in BIAL, Unique Zurich and L&T hold 17% each in the company. AAI and KSIIDC hold 13% each in the airport company.
GMR Group-led combine has said it would charge Rs 1,000 as UDF from international passengers. It wont levy any charge on domestic passengers in the initial months.
BIAL had initially proposed to levy an UDF of Rs 675 and Rs 995 on departing domestic and international passengers, respectively. But on the governments advice to charge reasonably, the company later agreed to a reduced fee of Rs 240-plus taxes for domestic passengers and Rs 520-plus taxes for international passengers for the first two months.
