Fresh spate of rains hit flight operations at Mumbai airport

The runways were shut down for close to 20 mins at 9:12 am due to torrential rains

A fresh spate of rains caused delays and diversions of flight operations at the Mumbai airport Monday.

The runways were shut down for close to 20 mins at 9:12 am due to torrential rains, said an airport spokesperson. They were then reopened but flights continued to be delayed. Three flights were diverted to other airports in the morning, said the spokesperson.

Last week more than 300 flights were cancelled due to rains and as the main runway remained shut for more than three days as a SpiceJet aircraft was stuck in it.
