The government has established a four-member committee of experts to inquire into the circumstances that led to the Pawan Hans helicopter crash at Tawang Valley.

NEW DELHI: The government has established a four-member committee of experts to inquire into the circumstances that led to the Pawan Hans helicopter crash at Tawang Valley last Tuesday. The crash killed 17 passengers and injured six others. The panel is to complete the inquiry and submit a report in three months.

Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd (PHHL) has announced an interim compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the deceased and Rs 50, 000 for the injured. “Final compensation shall be determined as per law,” a release said.

Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation said it will commence countrywide checks to ensure safety in the sector after a directive from the civil aviation ministry. The DGCA will launch a reassurance drive to ensure that all helicopters are being operated and maintained in accordance with procedures.
