Foggy days may disrupt flight schedules for North India

Passengers are already facing issues at Delhi’s IGI Airport, which suspended its operations for two hours on Monday due to zero visibility. However, no cancellations have been reported so far.
Visibility is only likely to get worse in the coming weeks as the fog gathers density, scientists said. "We have seen four fog days already. However, it will get much thicker and worse during the last week of December," said V K Soni, head of Environment Monitoring Research Centre at the India Meteorological Centre.
Soni said that the single-digit temperatures and calm surface winds have led to widespread fog formation. The fog season will continue into January, and might even extend into February next year.
"The fog is thickest in the early morning, from before sunrise to around 10 am," Soni said. However, visibility might be affected well into the afternoon, he added.
"Our fog preparedness comes into effect as soon as the fog season starts," said a spokesperson from the IGI Airport.
