Flights to Chennai cancelled in Singapore due to flood

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued a travel notice yesterday, advising Singaporeans to postpone non-essential travel to Chennai.

SINGAPORE: Sixteen flights to and 18 arriving from Chennai were listed as cancelled at Singapore's Changi airport here today in wake of the worst floods that has affected normal life in the Indian state, according to the airport website.

Yesterday, 14 flights to and from Chennai were cancelled, media reports said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued a travel notice yesterday, advising Singaporeans to postpone non-essential travel to Chennai.

"Singaporeans already in Chennai are advised to stay in doors and take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety at all times," The Straits Times reported.

Singaporeans travelling to or living in Chennai are encouraged to register with the ministry.

With Chennai airport inundated following heavy rains, Navy's base at Arakkonam is serving as the makeshift airport for supplying relief material as well as for bringing in National Disaster Response Force teams.
