Flight operations normal at IGI

NEW DELHI: After a spell of fog, the Indira Gandhi International airport operated smoothly on Monday except for cancellation of two early morning flights due to low passenger load and a slight inclement weather.

Almost all carriers, both from domestic and international, were operating according to their schedule as the fog has lifted, airport officials said.

Visibility at the airport was high and recorded at over 2,000 metres for the main runway while on the new runway it was around 1,400 metres which allowed smooth functioning of aircraft movements, they said, adding that an early morning drizzle allowed the fog to set in.

On Sunday some flights were clubbed or cancelled due to the low passenger load. Air-travellers have been avoiding early morning flights out of the national capital due to the fog.

In the past week, flight operations at the airport were badly disrupted due to dense fog blanket which enveloped the national capital.

Over 600 flights were delayed for periods ranging for half-an-hour to four hours while about 100 were cancelled due to the poor runway visibility, which at times dipped to be low 100 metres in the bad weather conditions.
