Female crew eligible to be in-flight supervisors
The Delhi High Court held that female crew members are eligible for appointment as in-flight supervisors (IFS).
The court has also held that female crew members are eligible for appointment as in-flight supervisors (IFS).
The judgement came on a bunch of petitions filed by male cabin crew members (recruited earlier to June 5, 1997) challenging the Centre’s order allowing female crew members to fly till the age of 58 years and making female crew members eligible for consideration for appointment as in-flight supervisors.
They (pre-1997 male crew members) contended that IFS is a promotional post that is the sole preserve of the male cabin crew and said that IFS is the boss-in-charge of the cabin crew while on the flight and that the male crew cannot be asked to service on a flight which has their female colleague as an IFS.
Rejecting their contention, the court said, “IFS is no longer a post, much less a promotional post. It is a function that one among the cabin crew, on the basis of seniority, is asked to perform during the flight.”
