End of arbitrary names: Airport naming policy on anvil

A senior civil aviation minister told ET that there is a proposal to do that and will require Approval from the Union Cabinet.

NEW DELHI: Putting an end to politics over naming airports across the country, the Modi government will soon clear a proposal to name all future airports in the country after cities they are in.

A senior civil aviation minister told ET that there is a proposal to do that and will require Approval from the Union Cabinet.

"Yes. It is a proposal. This will require approval from the Cabinet. We will notify as and when Cabinet clears it," said a senior civil aviation ministry official, who did not want to be identified.

This move would come as a breather for airport operators, who have to name famous personalities from the state or city.
