"The claim that 'the maintenance of the Boeing 787-8 passenger aircraft was carried out by Turkish Technic' following the crash of an Air India passenger aircraft during take-off is false," said official handle of Republic of Türkiye Directorate of Communications Center for Countering Disinformation in a statement.
The statement clarified that Turkish Technic has never conducted maintenance work on any Boeing 787-8 aircraft owned by Air India. Officials further explained that existing maintenance contracts between Air India and Turkish Technic in 2024 and 2025 only covered B777 wide-body aircraft.
According to the statement, linking Turkish Technic to the maintenance of the crashed aircraft was part of "disinformation" intended to "manipulate" public perception about Turkiye-India ties.
"To date, Turkish Technic has not conducted maintenance on any Air India aircraft of this type," the officials stated.
"Although we are aware of which company performed the most recent maintenance on the crashed aircraft, it is beyond our scope to make a statement on this matter to avoid further speculation. The Centre for Countering Disinformation will continue to monitor and take the necessary measures against efforts that target the reputation of our flagship brands, which represent Turkiye on the international stage," the statement added.
Offering condolences, the statement further said, "As the people of Turkiye, we sincerely share the grief of the Indian people over this tragic plane crash. Respectfully submitted for public information."
The clarification followed public remarks made by yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who had alleged that an agency from Turkiye had been responsible for the aircraft's servicing.
The Air India flight AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was en route to London when it crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad International Airport on June 12. The aircraft crashed into the premises of a medical college in Meghaninagar. Of the 242 people on board, only one survived.
