DIAL takes over charge of IGI Airport

Delhi International Airport Ltd, the joint venture company led by Hyderabad-based GMR Group, on Thursday said it has taken full control of operations at the Capital's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the joint venture company led by Hyderabad-based GMR Group, on Thursday said it has taken full control of operations at the Capital's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The move comes after the completion of the three months transition period which began on May 3, a release by DIAL said.
As part of the transition process during the first month, the Airports Authority of India was performing all the duties observed by the joint venture company (JVC).
In the second month, the JVC was performing the functions observed by AAI and in the third month the JVC was operating independently with need based support from AAI, it added.
DIAL said it had taken up improvements in seating, floor lighting, toilet facilities and also addition of new X-ray machines for faster security checks of passengers.
The company said work on its master plan is progressing satisfactorily and will be completed by the end of September as scheduled.
On the operational side, the company said it was opening rapid exit taxiways to improve traffic circulation on the runway and also dual use of runway during peak hours, while efforts are being made to make it operational for 24 hours.
