DGCA may ban even newly replaced Galaxy Note 7 on flights

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA) may soon bar passengers from carrying even new replaced Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones on the lines of the announcement by US Federal Aviation Authority ( FAA).

FAA barred passengers from carrying even replaced Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones.

"In light of recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices, the Federal Aviation Administration strongly advises passengers not to turn on or charge these devices on board aircraft and not to stow them in any checked baggage any Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices, including recalled and replacement devices," FAA said in a statement on October 10, 2016.

DGCA had said last week that they would wait for FAA's report on a Galaxy Note 7 catching fire on a Southwest flight in Kentucky. They had said that any new advisory will be based on FAA's response on the case of fire.

The earlier advisory by DGCA had asked airlines to allow phones with 'green battery indicator' to be carried on flights in switch on mode.

Reports suggest Samsung halted sales of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones and told owners to stop using them while it investigates reports of fire, which is likely due to a faulty battery.
