DGCA allows SpiceJet to give discount of Rs 200 to passengers travelling without check in baggages

DGCA has allowed SpiceJet to incentivise passengers travelling without check in baggages with a fare incentive of Rs 200 per ticket.

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA) has allowed SpiceJet to incentivise passengers travelling without check in baggages with a fare incentive of Rs 200 per ticket.
Under the scheme a passenger, who opts for travelling without any checkin baggage, will get a discount of Rs 200 per passenger ticket booked.

"However if a passenger reports for flight with a check in baggage, the passenger will have to pay Rs 400 extra at the airport," said a senior DGCA official, who did not want to be identified.

The official added that SpiceJet had sought permissions to charge a penalty of Rs 750 per passenger, which the government did not approve.
"The airline has been allowed to charge a penalty of Rs 400 per passenger," said the official adding that SpiceJet will be informed soon.

This scheme by Spicejet is set to attract a large number corporate travellers, who generally travel with just a cabin baggage.
