Delhi rain chaos: Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet issue advisories amid yellow alert. Check before heading out

Air India, in a post on X, said: "Rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today. Please check your flight status here (https://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html) before heading to the airport and allow extra time for your journey."
SpiceJet also alerted travelers: "Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via http://spicejet.com/#status."
IndiGo issued a detailed advisory, warning passengers about waterlogging and low visibility: "Heavy rainfall continues across Delhi, and road conditions remain slow in several parts of the city. If you are travelling today, please allow extra time and check your flight status on our app or website before you leave for the airport. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and are available to assist you at all times."
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed the capital under a yellow alert, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and moderate to heavy showers.
According to IMD data, Delhi recorded 399.8 mm of rainfall in August 2025, making it the wettest August in 15 years. The last higher figure was 455.8 mm in 2010. August 2025 also exceeded August 2024’s 390.3 mm, which was already 67% above the long-period average.
Comparatively, rainfall in previous years was much lower—91.8 mm in 2023, 41.6 mm in 2022, and 237 mm in 2021.
This year’s monsoon has been particularly intense. Delhi logged 243.3 mm of rain in June—three times the normal—and 203.7 mm in July, close to the seasonal average. With over 750 mm since June, the city has already surpassed its seasonal monsoon average and is nearing the annual rainfall benchmark of 774.4 mm.
