Delhi, Mumbai airport witness over 200+ international flight cancellations amid Middle East conflict

The Delhi Airport witnseed at least 100 international flights on Sunday as global airlines grapple with operational disruptions due to the ongoing Middle East crisis. The US and Israel attacked Iran, leading to widespread aviation disruptions across the Gulf contries and closure of airspace. A source told PTI that 60 international departures and 40 arrivals were cancelled.

Alongside this, 125 flights were cancelled at Mumbai airport. "A total of 125 flights have been cancelled at Mumbai Airport up till 2.30 pm on Sunday. These include 67 departures and 58 arrivals," a source told PTI.

"Due to the evolving political situation in the Middle East, west-bound international flights may experience disruptions or schedule changes," DIAL said in a post on X.

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) is the operating authority of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). It is also the country's largest airport, handling more than 1,300 flight movements daily.

Earlier, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said that 444 international flights are expected to be cancelled by domestic carriers on Sunday.

Apart from the Delhi Airport, the Amritsar international airport saw 10 flight cancellations due to airspace closures in the Middle East.

According to an advisory issued by the authority, two Qatar Airways flights -- from Doha to Amritsar and from Amritsar to Doha -- have been cancelled.

Alongside this, four Air India Express flights -- from Dubai to Amritsar, from Amritsar to Sharjah, from Sharjah to Amritsar and from Amritsar to Dubai were also cancelled.

Two SpiceJet flights from Dubai to Amritsar and Amritsar to Dubai, and two IndiGo flights from Sharjah to Amritsar and from Amritsar to Sharjah were also cancelled, according to the information shared by the airport authorities.

"In continuation of yesterday's (Saturday) advisory and due to ongoing airspace restrictions amid the prevailing situation in the Middle East region, the flights have been cancelled," it said in a statement.

"Passengers are requested to stay in touch with their respective airlines for rebooking/refund options and the latest schedule updates. AAI (Airports Authority of India) and airport authorities are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with airlines and concerned agencies. The safety, security, and convenience of passengers remain our top priority," the authorities said.
