Delhi rose from No 39 last year and was the only Indian airport to make the global top 50. It ranked ninth in the Asia-Pacific region and ninth among the world's low-cost megahubs. Delhi recorded 2,174 possible international connections in the ranking period, compared with 1,819 for Mumbai, according to OAG. Mumbai, India's other major international gateway, ranked No 11 in the low-cost megahub category. IndiGo accounted for 43% of flights at Mumbai and 60% of the airport's low-cost-carrier capacity, compared with 57% at Delhi.
The two airports are the main international gateways in India, with Delhi handling a large share of the country's international connecting traffic and Mumbai serving as a major gateway for traffic between India and markets in the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
