BANGALORE: Low-cost carrier, Deccan on Monday announced its partnership with Oxigen, a one-stop online payment solution, to enable passengers to book, pay and generate an e-ticket on their mobile phones.

The service, which became operational today, can be availed by depositing money in the Deccan Prepaid account, called the mFly Account, from any of the 35,000 Oxigen outlets across India, Captain G R Gopinath, Executive Chairman, Deccan Aviation, told reporters.

The account could subsequently be accessed through an SMS or web to book tickets, he said.

The services could initially be availed by registering on the Deccan Website or calling up a Deccan call centre. Once registered, a passenger would receive a four digit password. The passenger after depositing money in the Mfly account, could use the mobile to check availability of flight, fare and book a ticket. The passenger would receive a ticket number or a PNR as an SMS confirming the booking and e-mail ticket would be sent to the customer.

On the day of the journey, a passenger could go to the airport and collect the e-ticket from the counter. This initiative was aimed at tapping the 200 million mobile phone users, which roughly constitute 20 per cent of the population.

This distribution network in addition to its current channels like post offices, petrol pumps, travel agents and internet would help in tapping the fast growing mobile user population estimated to touch 500 million in future.

Its advantage was that it could be used by passengers who did not have a debit or credit card and was available on all mobile handsets for a nominal SMS charge. Deccan partners with Oxigen for bookings through mobile phones
