Cyclone Remal to hit Bengal coast tonight; Kolkata airport to suspend ops for 21 hours
Flight services from the Kolkata airport were restored on Monday being suspended for 21 hours due to cyclone Remal, an official said to PTI.

The first flight to depart from the Kolkata airport was Indigo's Kolkata-Port Blair flight. It took off at 8:59 am. The fist plane to land in Kolkata was a SpiceJet from Guwahati, landing at 9:05 am, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) top official said to PTI.

Check-in has begun for some other flights, the official said.


The last flight to depart from Kolkata airport on Sunday was at 12.16 pm.

It will take some more time for the situation to get back to normal at the airport, said an airport source as quoted by PTI.

Cyclone Remal made a landfall in West Bengal around midnight on Sunday. The cyclone brought heavy rain the the city and the southern part of the state.

The authorities of Kolkata airport had decided to suspend flight operations from Sunday noon anticipating a disastrous impact on the city.

The precautionary measure was taken after a meeting of the stakeholders of the NSCBI Airport here on Saturday, the official said to PTI.
