Coronavirus impact: Air India sale deadline extended by over a month

As Coronavirus impacts countries worldwide, the government has extended the date for completion of Air India sale by over a month and a half. According to the notice, interested companies can submit their bids for the national carrier by April 30, 2020. The earlier date for submission of bids waas March 17, 2020.

With the extension of bidding date, the final dates for announcement of bidders would now happen on May 14, 2020.

This is the second time the government is trying to sell Air India and is not taking any chances as a similar attempt in 2018 did not attract any bidder. The government, however, does expect to find bidders for Air India this time and is confident that the Coronavirus pandemic is unlikely to impact interest in Air India.


The government is planning to sell 100% in Air India and with a much reduced debt.
