KOLKATA: One hundred twenty passengers of two aircraft had a narrow escape on Wednesday when a collision between a Jet Airways flight which was about to land and a Kingfisher Airlines plane taxiing on the runway was averted at the N S C Bose International Airport here.

The Jet Airways flight number 9W 207 from Guwahati to Kolkata with 95 passengers on board was preparing to touch down at the airport when the captain noticed the Kingfisher Airlines aircraft bound for Aizawl with 25 passengers taxiing on the same runway, the sources said.

The captain of the Jet Airways flight immediately contacted Air Traffic Control (ATC) and was told not to land.

The Kingfisher Airlines flight had a problem with the wheel and therefore it was not taking off. It was then ordered by the ATC to clear the runway, the sources said.

After the runway was cleared, the Jet Airways flight landed safely, the sources added.
