Civil Aviation Policy to benefit passengers: PM Narendra Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the Civil Aviation Policy approved by the Cabinet would transform the sector and greatly benefit the passengers.

He said the government aims to make air travel affordable and after implementation of the policy, scheduled commercial flights will increase from 77 in 2016 to 127 by 2019.

"The #CivilAviationPolicy approved today by the Cabinet will transform the sector & greatly benefit passengers," Modi tweeted.

"#CivilAviationPolicy gives an impetus to affordability, regional connectivity, safety, infrastructure, which is vital for #TransformingIndia," he said in another tweet.

The Civil Aviation Policy is aimed at making India the third largest civil aviation market

Domestic ticketing is expected to grow from 8 crore in 2015 to 30 crore by 2022, Modi said.

Under the policy, green-field airports and heliports are to be developed.
