CITU seeks govt intervention to resolve workers row

NEW DELHI: With the workers of Indian deciding to go on mass casual leave demanding payment of wage arrears, CPI(M)-backed trade union CITU on Thursday asked the Civil Aviation Minister to intervene in the management-employees row to avert a crisis.
The trade union alleged that the Indian management is "deliberately delaying" revision of wages of employees and payment of their arrears for the last 10 years despite the domestic carrier making profit.
Claiming that the stand of the airlines management is likely to cause a lot of inconvenience to air travellers, CITU sought the Civil Aviation Minister's intervention so that the "genuine" demands of the employees are met and the crisis is averted.
The Air Corporation Employees Union, which represents a sizeable number of the workers, had yesterday decided to go on a mass casual leave on Friday to press for their demands.
