Chennai-London British Airways flight cancelled

CHENNAI: British Airways on Monday cancelled its Chennai-London flight in view of the closure of the Heathrow Airport after fresh dense cloud of volcanic ash drifted from Iceland.

The flight, scheduled to take off from the airport here at 4.30 AM with 280 passengers, was cancelled at around 9 AM following an alert from London, airport sources said.

Meanwhile, a private aircraft which left for Port Blair this morning with 13 passengers on board returned to Chennai as it could not land there due to bad weather conditions.

The flight would leave for Port Blair tomorrow, the sources said.
