Chennai Airport which had suspended operations early this month following torrential rains and floods had suffered loss of Rs 66.56 crore in terms of damage and revenues.

CHENNAI: Chennai Airport which had suspended operations early this month following torrential rains and floods had suffered loss of Rs 66.56 crore in terms of damage and revenues, a top official said today.

Airport Authority of India had to shut the airport for five days from December 1 due to severe rains and floods that left the facility unusable.

"Due to unprecedented rain and inundation, the Chennai Airport was closed and flight operations suspended. The assets damaged due to the floods have been assessed," Airport Director Deepak Shastri said.

"The estimated damage to communication, navigation and surveillance facilities and other damages works out to Rs 31.06 crore," he said.

Further in terms of business, the Airport also incurred loss of approximately Rs 35.50 crore, both traffic and non-traffic revenues, he said.
