Cabin crew to monitor pilots' controlled rest: DGCA

NEW DELHI: In a bid to check on instances of aircraft becoming untraceable during the pilot's 'control rest' period, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA) has mandated cabin crew to keep a check on pilots during such period on medium- and long-haul flights.

It has also asked pilots to never reduce the volume of headphones to levels that it can not be heard.

The order comes at a time when flights by Indian carriers have gone incommunicado over European airspace.

In an order, issued today, the aviation regulator has also asked airlines to maintain a log book of the pilots' control rest period and DGCA could conduct a surprise check.
