Bhutan's upcoming Gelephu International Airport is gaining attention for its breathtaking design. Located near the Indian border, it is set to open in 2029 as part of the Gelephu Mindfulness City, project, as per an Instagram post by The Tatva.

Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the airport combines sustainability, modern innovation, and Bhutanese traditions. Its diagrid structure, built using locally sourced timber, features intricate Bhutanese wood carvings and dragon motifs, symbolizing the country’s past, present, and future.

The airport is designed to efficiently handle up to 123 flights per day and accommodate 1.3 million passengers annually by 2040. Its layout ensures smooth operations and a comfortable travel experience.
