Bhubaneswar-Kolkata IndiGo flight on Aug 13 cancelled after pilot detects technical snag

An IndiGo flight from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata was cancelled on August 13 after the pilot noticed a technical issue while passengers were boarding, with the airline saying the decision was taken as a precaution to ensure safety.

The flight, scheduled to depart at 4:30 pm, was called off after the technical snag was detected.

One of India's largest aviator's said there was no compromise on passenger safety and that cancelling the service was considered the most prudent course of action.


All 56 passengers who had boarded the aircraft were safely escorted back to the arrival area following the cancellation.

The cancellation led to some agitation among passengers at the airport. The situation, however, was brought under control shortly afterwards.

Personnel from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and IndiGo worked together to manage the situation and ensure that the airport operations remained orderly.

The incident comes as airlines continue to prioritise technical checks before departure, with flight crews and ground teams required to address any suspected aircraft issue before an aircraft is cleared to operate.

Full emergency in Chennai

The latest incident comes days after a separate IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Chennai triggered a full emergency at Chennai Airport after the aircraft reported a left engine inoperative condition.

Chennai Airport Authority said the full emergency was declared at 11:29 pm on Wednesday for IndiGo flight 6E-723, which was carrying 224 people. The aircraft was expected to arrive at 11:37 pm, against its scheduled arrival time of 11:30 pm.

Emergency response arrangements were activated to facilitate the aircraft's safe landing. The flight subsequently touched down safely on Runway 25 at 11:37 pm.

The airport authority said the full emergency was withdrawn at 11:47 pm, after which normal operations resumed.

Earlier emergency landing in Rajkot

Last month, another IndiGo flight, operating from Dubai to Mumbai, made an unscheduled emergency landing at Rajkot Airport after the pilots received an alert indicating smoke in the aircraft's lower cargo hold.

The crew declared an emergency and sought priority landing clearance from Air Traffic Control at Rajkot.

Emergency teams, including fire tenders and medical personnel, were positioned alongside the runway as a precaution before the aircraft landed safely.
