Bhatia to head Etihad India

Etihad Airways on Monday said it has appointed Neerja Bhatia as its new country manager for India.

MUMBAI: Etihad Airways on Monday said it has appointed Neerja Bhatia as its new country manager for India.

She has been with Etihad since November 2004. She joined as sales manager for Western India and was promoted to head the Abu Dhabi-based airline's Western and Southern India operations in December 2005.

"The demand for air travel between the UAE and India is huge and is set to grow as Abu Dhabi continues its rapid expansion. As we look to expand our network to include more of the emerging cities of India, Neerja's experience in helping us to establish these potential new routes will be invaluable," Etihad Executive Vice President Geert Boven said in a statement.

Etihad plans to fly from Abu Dhabi to various new destinations in India. Presently, it has 28 flights a week between India and the UAE.
