Bengal Aerotropolis Projects gets aerodrome license

The 650-acre airport is part of the Rs 10,000 crore aerotropolis planned in the Durgapur-Andal region in West Bengal.

MUMBAI: Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Ltd (BAPL), a joint venture between Changi Airports and five Indian companies including IL&FS Monday said it has been granted the “aerodrome license” thus becoming the first operational greenfield private airport in the country.

The 650-acre airport is part of the Rs 10,000 crore aerotropolis planned in the Durgapur-Andal region in West Bengal.

Other partners in the JV include Pragati Social Infrastructure & Development, Pragati 47 Development, Lend Lease Company (India). and Citystar Infrastructures. It was incorporated in 2007.

India’s government is planning two more Greenfield airports in Navi Mumbai and Goa.
