The Akhilesh Yadav government has decided to set up an international airport in Agra. A state government official said that Agra attracts the largest number of foreign tourists.

LUCKNOW: The Akhilesh Yadav government has decided to set up an international airport in Agra. A state government official said that Agra attracts the largest number of foreign tourists in the country and in 2011 the city welcomed 10.73 lakh foreign tourists out of the total 63.52 lakh that visited India.

The city lacked an international airport and the government has decided on setting up one between Agra and Mathura. The project would be completed by 2017 and built under the Public Private Partnership model. The District Magistrate of Agra and Mathura have already identified four sites for this purpose and sent proposals to the state government, the official said.
