Akasa Air in talks with Boeing to order 200 737 MAX aircraft: Report

Akasa Air, India’s third-largest airline, is in talks to order more than 200 Boeing 737 MAX jets, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg, as the airline looks to expand its share of India’s growing air travel market and secure aircraft deliveries into the next decade.

The Mumbai-based carrier, which began operations in 2022, already has unfilled orders for 183 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, the report said. The additional purchase would allow Akasa to continue growing its fleet beyond 2032.

A decision on the potential order is expected early next year, while terms are likely to be finalised in the second half of 2027, the sources told the publication.


The potential order comes as Akasa continues to expand its fleet of Boeing’s fuel-efficient 737 MAX jets. The airline currently operates 43 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has orders for additional planes scheduled for delivery over the next decade.

Akasa is targeting a 30% increase in capacity by March 2027 and is also weighing participation in the government’s emergency credit guarantee scheme, its chief financial officer said in June.
