Airports step up security check this holiday period

NEW DELHI: Those flying for their Christmas and year-end vacation will have to wait longer at airports, as the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued a security alert and advised intensive checks of passengers and vehicles entering airports.

In a letter issued to all agencies involved in airport security, BCAS said they should keep an extra vigil till the New Year Day.

Airports across the globe have stepped up security during the holiday period around Christmas and New Year due to the threat of terror attacks. In India, the threat is mainly from Pakistan-based terrorist organisations.


BCAS has also asked the agencies to ensure extra care on the city side of airports and thoroughly check vehicles entering the premises.

The Central Industrial Security Force, which guards 59 airports, had recently warned that the city-side of airports, which includes the approach road and parking area, was vulnerable to terror attacks.
