CHENNAI: Airports Authority of India (AAI) today announced a contingency plan to ensure normal operations at Chennai and Kolkata airports on June 21 in the wake of mass casual leave stir call given by union members to protest privatisation of both the airports.

AAI is taking a number of steps to engage additional manpower from Chennai Fire Brigade to man the fire station at the airport and pressing additional ambulances from the city hospitals as a standby arrangements, it said in a release here.

A central control room is being set up at Chennai Airport to monitor the situation, it said, adding that upkeep of public convenience facilities will be outsourced to contract labour at both domestic and international terminals.

Officers on leave were being asked to return to duty and also trainees in training institutions to operate services during the agitation period, AAI said.
