Airport security beefed up: Secretary

The Delhi and Mumbai airports bolstered security on Friday and slapped new restrictions on carry-on items.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi and Mumbai airports bolstered security on Friday and slapped new restrictions on carry-on items after Britain disclosed that it had foiled a terrorist plot and the United States announced that terrorists would attack cities in India between 11 and 16th of this month. Long delays, plus dry mouths and dry skin, were likely to be the most immediate result of the new measures, which banned passengers from carrying liquids and gels with them when they board.

Secretary, civil aviation, Ajay Prasad, while addressing a press conference in the Capital said that there are certain restrictions on the passengers traveling on both international and domestic routes to tighten the security at the airports.

The secretary said that the restrictions will remain in place till further notice. While banning liquid or gels, Mr Prasad said that only baby food and medicines will be allowed on flights. He said that domestic passengers have to reach 90 minutes before the departure and international passengers must reach three hours before the departure.
