Airlines other than AI to operate from Kozhikode: Ahmed
The Centre was taking steps to invite other international airlines to operate from Kozhikode airport, says Union minister of state for External Affairs E Ahmed.
"I am given to understand that the Civil Aviation ministry, considering the people's anguish over unsatisfactory performance of Air India flights, unfortunate delay and change of schedule, which may sometimes become inevitable, will take steps in the first week of next month and hold consultations with other international airlines," he said.
In the light of recent protests by passengers, the civil aviation ministry and the Prime Minister himself were of the view that Kozhikode must also have other international airlines as Air India was enjoying monopoly of operating from the busy airport, Ahmed said.
"It might take one or two months for allowing more flights from Kozhikode after completion of formal talks with other international airline operators", he said.
