Air traffic up 23% in January to September period over last year

MUMBAI: Air traffic in India continued to grow with airlines carrying 72.7 million passengers from January to September, up by 23 per cent over last year.

Traffic for the month of September grew 24 per cent to 8.3 million.

India has been beating the world in terms of domestic traffic growth according to figures from global lobbying body International Air Transport Association, pushed by a growing economy and burgeoning middle class.

In a passenger forecast issued yesterday, IATA said India will become the third largest aviation market in the world by displacing the UK in 2026.

For the month of September, IndiGo remained the market leader attaining a market share of 40 per cent.
