Air passengers grow by 25.13% in January

India's passenger growth is highest on the world and the growth is primarily on the back of lower fares due to higher capacity in the market and lower fuel prices.

NEW DELHI: Domestic air passengers during the month of January grew by a whopping 25.13% with Indian carriers carrying 9.58 million primarily on the back of lower fares, shows passenger data shared by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA).

The month saw all national carriers in the country flew its planes with over 80% seats full. SpiceJet flew its planes with 93.6%, of its seats full, which was highest in the country. Air India flew its planes with 81.1% seats full, which was lowest by a national scheduled carrier during the month.

Spicejet also operated maximum number of its flights in time by operating 71.6% of its flights on time followed closely by IndiGo, which operated 71.2% of its flights in time.

Vistara saw the highest decline in its performance on operating flights in time by operating only 53% of its flights in time. Air India operated 56.8% of its flights in time.

Indigo remained the market leader in terms of passenger carriage by flying 39.8% of the total passengers during the month. Jet Airways followed IndiGo in terms of market share by flying 18% of the total passengers flown during the month.
