Air India's new CMD to be announced on Mar 26
The name of the new chief of Air India is likely to be announced on Wednesday, that would end weeks of speculation over the issue.
The position of Chairman and Managing Director of the National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) would fall vacant on March 31, the day V Thulasidas retires.
Highly-placed sources said an announcement of the new CMD is likely on Wednesday.
Names of several Secretary and Additional Secretary level officials have been doing the rounds of the Civil Aviation Ministry corridors for the past several weeks.
The names include those of Air India's Joint CMD Vishwapati Trivedi, who used to head the erstwhile Indian, as also of Arvind Mayaram of the Department of Economic Affairs.
Speculation has also been rife that Thulasidas could be given an extension of three months to oversee the continuing process of amalgamation of the two public sector carriers following their merger.
