NEW DELHI: The tyre of an Air India Airbus A320 burst on landing at Srinagar Monday, blocking the airport’s only runway.

“The flight had 149 passengers on board,” Air India said in a release. “All passengers are safe.”
Flight operations at Srinagar were suspended for the day with the plane stranded on the runway. Of the 32 daily flights that Srinagar has, about half were cancelled.

The airline said efforts are under way to clear the runway quickly and a relief aircraft is ready to reach Srinagar to operate the return flight via Jammu and Delhi.
