Air India Mumbai-Newark flight diverted to Kazakhstan

A person in the know said the flight was diverted after the fire alarm in the cargo hold went off.

MUMBAI: An Air India Mumbai-Newark flight was diverted to and made an emergency landing in Kazakhstan due to "operational reasons".

A person in the know said the flight was diverted after the fire alarm in the cargo hold went off.

An airline executive said inspection of the Boeing 777 plane is on. He said all passengers are safe.

The flight departed from Mumbai around 2.30 am and landed in Kazakhstan at 8 am.
