Air India, Jet Airways flyers can soon check-in from two Delhi metro stations

The initiative is taken to further popularise the premier line, also known as Airport Express (Orange Line), connecting the city to the airport.

NEW DELHI: Starting July 1, Air India and Jet Airways passengers commuting to IGI Airport will have the option to check-in at Delhi Metro's Shivaji Stadium and New Delhi stations, a move aimed at further popularising the premier line connecting the city to the airport.

At present, only Air India passengers can avail the check-in facility at the New Delhi station of the high-speed corridor, also known as Airport Express ( Orange Line).

The upcoming facility will be available to passengers of the two airlines, flying both on domestic as well as international routes. The check-in counters at the stations will close two hours before scheduled departure of a flight.

"The airport passengers can obtain their boarding pass at the check-in counter and check-in the luggage as well. The checked-in baggage will be transferred to IGI Airport's Terminal-3 through a secured Baggage Handling System (BHS)," DMRC said in a statement.

In a bid to increase ridership on the 23-km-long corridor, DMRC has taken a number of steps including slashing fares by up to 50 per cent and raising train frequency to 10 minutes between 8 AM and 8 PM everyday.

The average daily ridership of the airport line stands at around 36,000.
