Flight IX-2564 was scheduled to land in Jammu around noon before continuing to Srinagar. However, the aircraft hovered over the Jammu airport for some time before the pilot opted to return to Delhi without attempting a landing.
Airport officials confirmed that weather and runway conditions in Jammu were normal at the time, PTI reported. They said the pilot appeared unable to identify the appropriate landing area.
In an official statement, an Air India Express spokesperson said that the airline arranged a replacement flight for affected passengers.
“Our Delhi–Jammu flight returned to Delhi as a precautionary measure, following a suspected GPS interference incident. Subsequently, an alternative flight was organised to connect guests to Jammu. We regret the inconvenience caused. Instances of GPS signal interference have been reported by operators while flying over certain sensitive regions,” they said.
