Air India carries out test landing at Arakkonam Naval Base off Chennai airport

About 1500 passengers and 2000 airport/airline staff were stranded at the Chennai airport, in the daytime today. All flights were cancelled and more than 30 planes were grounded.

MUMBAI: National Carrier Air India, carried out a test landing at the Arakkonam Naval Base off the Chennai airport, which is shut due to massive floods.

The aircraft took off from Hyderabad and landed at Chennai at 8:37 pm today.

About 1500 passengers and 2000 airport/airline staff were stranded at the Chennai airport, in the daytime today. All flights were cancelled and more than 30 planes were grounded.

Later in the day, a statement from the ministry of civil aviation said 90 passengers have been sent to Bangalore by buses and 200 passengers have been transferred to the city. Airports Authority of India has established emergency contact numbers for helping out people.
