AI to accomodate passengers of diverted flight in old terminal
Decision in regard and arrangement was made in view of chaos at new terminal witnesses during diversions of flight from Delhi and other nearby cities.
The decision in the regard was taken to avoid chaos at the new terminal building of the airport during flight diversions.
"We will be able to accommodate 160-170 passengers at a time in old airport terminal building this year, which is presently used for cargo operations only. It will be in addition to the capacity of the new terminal," Sanganer Airport Director S N Borkar told.
He said the decision in the regard and the arrangement was made in view of chaos at the new terminal witnesses during the diversions of flight from Delhi and other nearby cities.
"The new terminal can accommodate 300 passengers at a time but when 10-12 flights are diverted due to fog, we find it difficult to accommodate all the deplaned passengers at the new terminal from where all the passenger flights operate," he said.
Borkar said that construction work on the runway will be closed from December 1 to February 15, which in present is underway from 0930 to 1630 hrs, so that diverted flights can be landed.
At present, 52 flights including international ones to Dubai, Muscat, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi operate (both landing and take off) from the Sanganer airport. During the fog season, the airport witness flights are diverted mainly from Delhi, Ahmedabad due to fog during the winter season.
