AI employees threaten strike over salary issue

NEW DELHI: Air India operations is likely to be affected on June 30 with about 24,000 employees on Wednesday threatening to go on an agitation later this month if their salaries are delayed by a fortnight as decided by the management.

"Members of Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU), Aviation Industry Employee's Guild (AIEG) and Indian Aircraft Technicians Association (IATA) will jointly boycott their work on June 30 by adopting 'no pay, no work' policy if the management fails to give us our salary on June 30," ACEU General secretary J B Kadian told PTI here.

On June 13, National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL) -- formed after the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines into one entity of Air India -- management issued a circular to its employees, saying that it was deferring the payment of June salary and productivity linked incentives to all its employees till July 15.

The development comes in the backdrop of major international carrier British Airways asking its employees to to forgo their June salaries.

The three unions -- ACEU, AIEG, IATA -- have chalked out a plan of their agitation which will begin from June 19 when they would hold a luncheon meeting without disrupting any work.
