After Jet Airways, IndiGo receives calls warning of explosives on 11 of its flights

After five flights of Jet Airways were grounded due to bomb threat calls yesterday, calls were made to IndiGo’s call centre in Chennai.

NEW DELHI: After bomb threats for five Jet Airways flights on Tuesday IndiGo received calls warning of explosives on 11of its aircraft, including one on the Srinagar-Jammu-Delhi route, which was a hoax. The aircraft on the Srinagar-Jammu-Delhi route was checked and cleared and took off for Pune from Delhi at 7 pm.

The IndiGo call centre in Chennai received a bomb threat call at 11:13 am and within minutes, all security agencies were informed, the airline said in a statement.

“There are certain laid down procedures to be followed by the airlines, airports and other government authorities and all such procedures were followed and are being followed. We have commenced additional security measures as per our laid down procedures,” IndiGo said. Flight 6E 853 (Srinagar-Jammu-Delhi) was in the air between Jammu and Delhi when the calls were made, a person familiar with the matter said. “Our flight 6E 853 – Jammu-Delhi, on arrival at Delhi after disembarkation of passengers was moved to an isolation bay,” IndiGo said.

The airline added that all passengers were safe and the threat was a hoax. IndiGo said it could not divulge further details. Airlines and airports are on heightened alert following explosions in Brussels on Tuesday.
