Advisory committee discusses steps to develop Kolkata airport

KOLKATA: Passengers travelling through the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose international airport here will soon enjoy better amenities, as authorities in an advisory committee meeting today discussed to develop infrastructure and other facilities, particularly in the new terminal.

Various steps were discussed at an advisory committee meeting of the airport which was presided by its chairman, Sougata Roy, MP and attended by airport director B P Sarma.

In a bid to develop infrastructure, decision was taken to install at least seven luggage scanners in addition to the present two within a couple of months to cater to the needs of ever growing passengers.

According to official sources, it was also decided to ply round-the-clock AC Volvo buses connecting the city to the airport while special tender will be invited to set up more food stalls for the passengers.

Apart from the Dragon airways which has already started its international service, talks are on with air-carriers of Dubai and Turkey to introduce flights from the airport, sources said.

The meeting decided to set up display boards mentioning the fares of taxi at the taxi stand outside the airport terminal for the passengers, they said.
