Mumbai: Adani Group's Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIAL), which will run the second aviation hub of India's commercial capital, plans to raise ₹20,000 crore in the second half of FY26 for building the greenfield facility's next phase, to be operational by 2029.

The first phase of the airport, set to be inaugurated on April 17, will begin with domestic operations in May, while international flights are expected to start in July. When fully complete in 2036, the Navi Mumbai airport will handle 90 million declared passengers annually, starting with 20 million declared capacity in the first phase.

"In a greenfield project like this one, the initial phases usually demand higher costs because of the ground-breaking, the rehabilitation, development etc. Along with this, we've also combined the initial development of the first and second phase into one," said a senior Adani official, who declined to be named.

"We are also developing the metro footings, automated people mover (APM) footings, and an underground tunnel for terminal connectivity in the phase one and two itself. This approach will make sure that future expansion is done without disrupting airside operations," said the executive.

Adani Group did not respond to ET's query.
