AAI offers free of cost space to banks to open exchange counters at its airports

The Modi government had banned Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from September 9, 2016, and has allowed time till December 30, 2016, to exchange these notes.

Air passengers will soon be able to exchange old Rs 500/1000 notes at airports operated by Airports Authority of India ( AAI), as the airport operator has decided to allow any Scheduled Commercial Bank to open and operate (on temporary basis) Currency Exchange Counter (small) for currency exchange without levying charges for space and electricity

"Decision of the Government of India to demonetise the currency (Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes) across the nation has led to currency hardship for airport users and air travelers. Hence, extending its support to the campaign and facilitating airport users and air travelers, AAI has decided to allow any Scheduled Commercial Banks to open and operate (on temporary basis) Currency Exchange Counter (small) for currency exchange without levying charges for space and electricity, etc. at its airports across the country upto 31st December, 2016 subject to availability of space," the airport operator said in a press release.

The Modi government had banned Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from September 9, 2016, and has allowed time till December 30, 2016, to the people to exchange these notes.
